Shortly heading off to cos-con in Mississauga Ontario and hope to see lots of lovely peoples there.  If it's even slightly as awesome as Costume-Con 32 in Toronto this is going to be amazing!

(Sadly no finished new costumes to show off, despite all attempts.  But should have a pretty kick-butt Dark Lady for Anime North in a month)

And am bringing my moogle.  :3

Moogleception by brightling
Won't be updates from me for a while.

My harddrives randomly corrupted on Friday and scattershot lost the files I've been formatting and working with lately.  Including what appears to be several hundred process photos from making my Moogle, and anything I had prepped to update my website with.

So I have not lost everything by any means, just records of months of work that can't be remade.  The really sucky part is because of how the files have disappeared I have no idea what all is missing.  Its going to be a crap process for awhile.  (And I've already spent 3-days of waking hours salvaging things off the drives and getting the basics running again.)

I am so done with this.  Too bad its not done with me.
Finally almost packed for this weekend!  I always feel like I'm bringing far more than is necessary but by the time I've got food and bandaids and all the costume bits and appropriate shoes along with oversized props... I guess it just adds up.  I'm only packing my fire kimono this weekend along with a couple of casual costumes (piratey and dancer) to accent my moogle.  I've got the pictures below so I'll be easier to spot.  :3

<3  Have a great weekend all!  I have multiple projects to come back to so hopefully that means more updates (and probably a few more artistic moogle photos).

I'm finding myself frustrated trying to find particular crafting materials.  Frequently I know what I precisely what I'm looking for but can't get an accurate search term.  Materials that frequently have multiple names (or worse have names that overlap with other types of similar materials) are a pain.  Like Chicago bolts can be binding posts, internal bolts, inset screws, and dozens of other names.  Lowe's is one of the only place I've found them real-world and they call them 'binding posts'.  L200 foam, or minicel foam, canoe foam or whatever term a store feels like terming it seems to be even harder to find.  Ordering online feels like betting blind when I rely so much on being able to see and touch materials to confirm what I'm looking for.  This is compounded because some of my reliable stores keep shutting down too.

Basically this all means the projects I'm working on are being done in order of what-I-can-get-the-supplies for.  Which isn't always the order I would prefer or even have the best time to focus on.  It does mean that I have another spiffy plushie getting close-ish to completion.  Once I can figure out meticulously trimming faux fur to shape with scissors with enough confidence to groom its face.  Once that's done I can get down to the wire armature, stuffing, and sewing all the bits together...

It's that weekend again, and it feels really early since its on the '2-4' weekend but not on the holiday weekend.

Can't wait to see so many awesome folks and costumes again.  If you happen to see me around I'll likely be either in my Tsubasa Sakura fire kimono costume, or my crazy Trinity Blood butterfly Seth dress.

Take care and hope your weekend is going to be as fantastic as mine.  :3

Or rather, warning: incoming artwork.  Though still much love for Reboot!

I've tried to mix my forthcoming updates up a bit so you don't get blasted with a massive block of all the same thing.  There's a mix of photography, jewellery, artwork and cosplay work just with what I've got roughly pulled together on my desktop to catch up on!

I hope you enjoy them, they're representative of a whole bunch of fun (and occasionally really insane) experiences.

If you're wondering where I've been for the past several months you can blame the fact that for this years conventions I ended up costuming Trinity Blood.

If you happen to be going to AN2014 this is what we'll be wearing (Saturday and potentially Sunday if the masquerade doesn't take us out).

I'm the one in green.

And if you happen to be here because you met me at the con, thanks for stopping by and it was lovely to meet you! <3

(Please send me pictures if you get them!)

I'm looking forward to having some updates once I return.  Take care~

I spent yesterday getting photographed at High Park in Toronto.  My brother's camera club was joking about needing a woman in a kimono to photograph amongst all the cherry blossoms in bloom and my brother commented that I had a firey kimono and maybe he could bring me:

Fire Kimono: Wintershoot (Tsubasa Cosplay) by brightling

Oh wow did I ever get photographed.  There were hundreds of photographers there and I got swarmed.  I guess it was worth being up at 4:30am to get ready so we could be into the park at 6am for parking!  I'm glad I made so many people smile.

I can't wait to see and share some photos from the event.  My favourite moment was probably posing sitting in a cherry tree (I can totally climb trees in my kimono) and being handed a pomeranian the same colour as my wig to hold.  Just absurd really, but so incredibly fun.

If you're here because you saw/met me yesterday I hope you had a wonderful day and please send me photos and links to share!  Include your name and gallery/site info so I can credit you for your work.

In the meantime I'll be working on my next costume for this year's Anime North. :D

Oh, yes, I should post my info and the character's for the photographers' reference:

My watercolour course in Hunstville was awesome last month.  Even better once they moved our class out of the storage closet (literally, though it was rather nice for a storage closet really) and into a room with air circulation!  I picked up a lot of basic skills that I didn't have that make watercolours make so much more sense now.  I need to work on colour values though and practice working in greyscale until thats second nature.  It'll give so much more dimension to my artwork.  But I did get a whole bunch of little paintings done in that week!

Watercolour Basics + Beyond, July 2012 by brightling

It's frustrating at times being able to clearly see what I need to do next to improve my artwork and just having to struggle to get that next jump cleared.  I'm so close to getting the images that I'm trying for but theres a few things I keep falling short with - dynamic movements, depth of lighting and shadows, engaging perspectives in my scenes.  I sometimes wish I like just one aspect of making things when life is busy like it has been instead of being torn between painting and comics, sewing (clothes and toys), sculpting, jewellery, publishing, design and writing and all the other little things that make up my life.  Like updating my website and galleries or interacting with human beings (social?  what is this you speak of?)  My strength is truly my diversity of skills, but its also a very real weakness at times when I find myself spread thin.  Perhaps with fall coming I'll have a bit more time between pet jobs to get things in order again for a bit.

Off to learn some new skills of the paint-y type!  Hopefully I will not take too much damage and there will be a save point for my progress at some point.  If the encounter is successful I'll be able to share some of the loot I've created while I'm away.  I'll try to avoid any random encounters with bitey insects and angry mammals, I've already taken enough damage from my over-excited pet-sitting charges this past week or so.  :3

(Off for a weeklong watercolour course! Will try not to get eaten.  Will share when I'm back~)

Prepping for Anime North just about took me out of commission this year.  The costume I was working on was of Elincia from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.   The detail work was... all consuming.  I don't even know.  It looks awesome in person but I'm having a hard time finding photos that show it clearly.  I'll have to drag my brother out to take some if he's willing?

I have news of AWESOME though!  (Aside from getting some neat stuff ready for uploading)

Legend of Korra will finally be airing in Canada on YTV!  This is the spiffy-cool sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender that I have been horribly jealous to hear about as it has progressively aired in the US.  :P  We are not forgotten entirely!  I am so excited you have no idea (have you seen the fanart so far!?)

The premiere of Korra is stated to air on YTV on Saturday June 9th @ 11am E/P, so GO WATCH!

Today is a good day to not be outside.  Everything is grey and blustery and damp and cold looking.

It is a good day to be in with books and music and paper and paints. :)  Which is also good because theres diddly all on tv again.

I have definately gained +watercolour skills many times over this past few months.  I'm still a bit baffled as to how that occured but I am pleased with the results.  Currently waiting for a stretched inked piece to completely dry (you make the paper wet as you tape it to the board so it doesn't go crazy wrinkly while you're painting) so that I can mask off sections and start the base washes on it.  This'll be the biggest single piece of art that I wasn't forced into by an art teacher - I always wanted to work small, this was disapproved of for some reason.  Well biggest not counting my kimono painting anyway, thats a whole different category of work altogether.

My room is covered painted things and beaded things at the moment.  I guess that means I should catch up on some scanning and photographing so I can post 'em in various places doesn't it?  I wish I didn't hate this computer so much.

And progress made, not just in theory even!  If all goes as planned I'll probably be uploading a whole backlog of material sometime in the next week or so.  Its still not a whole lot, but it will be nice to actually have some of it uploaded finally.  I have done some neat things since the last post afterall. :3

(Can I even remember what?  Hmm, some art, some jewellery, some cosplay...)

I do have a computer now!  I haven't entirely settled into it yet though so its still taking longer to do everything than I'm used too.  The screen also skews a bit bright so its harder to tell what my art is actually going to look like for the rest of the world.

I've been crazy busy and busy being crazy.  Now I've got a chance to update and its too late to add much of content. Must. Get. Sleep. Its been a rush to get my contest entry for Wacom's "Bring Your Vision to Life" photographed and uploaded.  Thank goodness the time zones were on my side this time.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a good opportunity to upload some more shots and some other content.  I just have to show these bunnies off in more than just the context of 'good vs evil' since they were such an absurd amount of work!

Thats that more creativity than sense thing striking again I think.  It'll pay off though in the unlikely event I come out of this with a new art program that's actually up to date... *hopes unrealistically*
Well its April now and the jokes on me.  My computer has pretty much up and died so I'm barely able to use it for communications let alone upload or work on anything.  Its amazing how many things are now suddenly on hold until I can find the right replacement.

At least I managed to get my website redesigned before the crash happened and mostly everything seems to be backed up.  And my new webhost continues to be solid even if I'm still in "discussions" with my old webserve.ca host through the Better Business Bureau.

Combined with sorting out real-world things its like climbing up a mountain in a rock-slide some days.  Everythings so exciting! >_<

Thanks for the comments and interest in what I've got up here still in the meantime.  Its neat to see when I am able to come in and check whats going on here. :3

Lots of 'making ofs' going on but not much shiny to show for it yet.  It'll be shiny though, oh yes.  *looks smug*  At least once I get some stuff done it will be.  ^_^;;

Spring is happening outside in full force today so I'll have to look at getting my mantis oothecas outside soon.  I'm planning on getting some protective mesh balls to hang them in and re-distributing them around the yard.  I hope they all hatch!  Then I'll have a most awesome army. :3  (And hopefully something to combat the demon-ants if they come back again?)

Thanks for visiting in the meantime!

Or hello DeviantArt at least.  I'm just getting set up here, finally, so I'll be posting some art eratically over the next little while.  A certain number will be portraits from Portrait Adoption, you're more than welcome to check out my art or that of the other wonderful artists there too!  Some of the prettier things from my website will be up here eventually as well.
