A newt in the hand is ... really cute

This little critter is an Eastern Newt.  We found him trapped on our pool cover late in the fall several years ago.  We don't see these very often where I live in Ontario Canada though they are around in the wild if you're looking carefully enough in the right places.  Thankfully we were able to haul the little guy out of the rather chilly water, warm it up a bit and release it down by the stream where it had a much better chance of over-wintering successfully.  They're always really neat and this particular one was wonderfully photogenic.
